Here are some great photos from our trip to NDSU for the Learning Bank Festival concert. We sure had a blast on our first field trip!

First Week Of March

Happy March! I can't believe that we are already two-thirds of our way throughout the school year! 

Here is what our week as in store for us. :) 

Peek at the Week

• Math-
• Lesson 8.4: What is the Area of My skin? 
• Objective: to estimate the area of a curved surface and convert square units
• Lesson 8.5:Formula for the Area of a Rectangle
• Objective: to use a formula to find the given area of a rectangle
• Lesson 8.6: Formula for the Area of a Parallelogram
• Objective: to use a formula for the area of a parallelogram
• Lesson 8.7:  Formula for the Area of a Triangle 
• Objective: to use a formula for the area of a triangle 
• Reading- 
• This week we will be working on the connect to text strategy. Using our literature circle books, as well as the book Enemy Pie by Derek Munson, we will be focusing on making text to self connections. 
• Through our reading this week, we will also focus on character traits.
• Writing-
• We are going to be introducing our next style of writing this week, opinion writing. We will be doing this by using a book that we read last week. Our goal in opinion writing this week will focus on using the text evidence to support our opinion of character traits of the characters we have read about. 
• Science- 
• This week in science we will do some reviewing of the past investigations we have done. We have some really exciting and fun investigations coming up!
• Word Study- 
• This week in Word Study, we are focusing on adding inflectional endings to words ending in -y. For example: carry  -- carried -- caries
• Spelling-
• Our spelling words this week are based around our word study curriculum. This weeks words are:

Need to Knows

• We are celebrating kindness week at Independence! :) Each day this week has a special dress up theme. They are as followed:
• Monday - Dress like your favorite book character
• Tuesday - Color Wars -- each grade level as a color-- we wear green 
• Wednesday - Wacky Wednesday -- dress wacky and crazy
• Thursday - Black out -- the whole school dresses in black
• Friday - Bull Dog Pride Day -- wear your bulldog gear, blue, and white
• We have library on Tuesday. Make sure you bring your books :) 
• Wednesday we have a field trip in the morning. We will be going to NDSU for the living ag field trip. We will leave around 8:20 and get back just before 11.
• After our field trip, we are are also having a reader from the Fargo Force read to our class. :) 
• We start the Hawk-eye Book Worm read this week. Make sure to read 30 minutes every night, and turn in your minutes each Monday for awesome prizes.
