Spelling City

I am so excited to announce that we are going to be using spelling city as a tool to aid us in our spelling and help us focus on the Word Study pattern that we are using that week. Each Monday, your student will take a quick pretest to determine what list they are working on that week. They have their list inside of their binder that they take home every night so they can study that list. Spelling City is just an extra resource they can use to practice with. There are some fun games they can play on the website. On Friday, they will actually take a test on their list. This will be a routine that we will do every week. I am excited to see the growth in our students. J

Mystery Guests :)

Last week we had 2 mystery guests come into our classroom. :) I was so excited that those guests just happened to be my parents. This was the first time they have ever gotten to watch me teach, and it was so easy to say yes to their visit. We are such a family in this room, and I love that we are so eager to invite people in to watch us work and learn together. My parents were SOOOO impressed with how great we were, and said we were the best 4th grade class they have visited (and believe me...they have visited quite a few classes). We can't wait to have more visitors as the year goes on!

States Work

It has been a while since my lasts post on the blog. Since the last post, so much has happened! We have really been working hard, especially on researching states. For two weeks, we spent a lot of time researching the Midwest. We summarized, found key ideas, made text to text connections, and even present our findings to others. I was so excited to watch this group work, and I was really proud of how our class really worked hard every day, and also loved watching our group work skills improve and grow. I hope you enjoy some of these photos from our researching.

Football Friday

This excited (and slightly caffeinated) teacher has been crazy blogging tonight, but I wanted to add one more photo before the night is done. Every Friday I take my lunch and recess and spend it with the awesome 4th graders at Independence. I love being able to learn with them all day, and then take some time out to eat lunch, toss around a football, play tag, or even climb on the jungle gym. I can't wait for tomorrow so we can have another adventure outside.

Winn Dixie Compare and Contrast Writing

This week we have been writing compare and contrast pieces surrounding Opal and Amanda from Because of Winn Dixie. We worked on this as teams, and were surprised at how many similarities these two characters had!

SE States Work

We had a busy week studying the Southeast region. Enjoy some of our pictures :)

NE States

We just started working on the states! Each week we will focus on a different region and study those regions so we can share information about those regions with others.

If you want to study at home, here is a great website with multiple games of varying levels that can be used for practice! States Practice

If you have items or pictures that you would like to share during theses units, feel free to bring them in and we will talk about those items.

So far, here are some photos from our first day of the NE region. Enjoy!
